ROOST
ARTIST STUDIOS
DESIGN
Three free-standing artist studios located on the outskirts of the Malheur Field Station.
Inspired by swallow nests, they are three variations of the same basic form, varied to accommodate the different orientations of the building.
Each form turns its oculus to the north, while their doors face a central area.
Each studio is oriented to provide a clear view to the landscape, and north light through its oculus.
PROCESS
• determine basic building form through parametric form-finding in grasshopper
• design gridshell structure and place openings
• analyze structural performance using Karamba plug-in for grasshopper
• adjust structure/building forms to optimize performance
