Aerial Perspective

The Portland Innovation Lab is designed to house an incubator for green businesses, including lab, office, social and exhibition space.

One of our key goals was to restore the ecology of the site, using strategies which would have additional benefits for the users of the building and the surrounding community. We wanted to create a building a positive force for both the human and natural environment.

The building itself is as self-sustaining as possible, generating its own power, and collecting and recycling enough water to serve the needs of both the building and surrounding landscape. The creased roof channels water to cisterns which serve both the building and an urban farm, which in turn provides fresh, organic food to the building’s cafe.
